What We Do / 02
Biological samples, defensible data, and field support for research, management, and regulatory decision-making.
Sound wildlife management and regulatory compliance increasingly depend on biological data — genetic samples, disease screening results, physiological assessments, and documented specimen collections that hold up to scientific and legal scrutiny.
WCS provides field-based biological sampling and research support services for private clients, government agencies, research institutions, and conservation organizations. Our team is experienced in safe, humane, and permit-compliant collection of biological materials across a wide range of California wildlife species.
Services Include
In Detail
Non-invasive and minimally invasive collection of genetic material — including hair snares, scat, blood, and tissue — to support population genetics, individual identification, relatedness analysis, and species confirmation.
Field collection of blood samples from captured or immobilized wildlife for hematological analysis, disease screening, toxicology, and physiological assessment. Conducted in compliance with applicable permits and animal welfare standards.
Collection of muscle, organ, and other tissue samples for pathological examination, contaminant analysis, genetic studies, and research applications. Samples are properly preserved and documented for laboratory submission.
Collection of tooth samples for genetic studies, analysis of age, exposure to toxicants and pollutants, geographic movement and connectivity, diet and trophic ecology, and research applications. Samples are properly preserved and documented for laboratory submission.
Non-invasive collection of hair and scat samples for genetic analysis, diet studies, parasite detection, and species presence confirmation. Hair snare stations and systematic scat surveys are designed for target species and habitat type.
Field-based surveillance programs to detect and monitor wildlife diseases, parasites, and pathogens of concern. Supports early detection, regulatory reporting, and management response for diseases including chronic wasting disease, avian influenza, and others.
Collection, preservation, and documentation of biological specimens including whole animals, skulls, feathers, and other materials for research, museum, regulatory, or management purposes.
Field operations support for academic institutions, government agencies, and conservation organizations. We provide experienced field personnel, equipment, logistics, and data management for wildlife research projects of any scale.
We support research programs of any scale — from single-property sampling to multi-year agency contracts.
